Korpisota 1941–1944


The Korpisota - Kuusamo–Kiestinki 1941–1944 and Salpalinja Kuusamossa historical books are online publications published on this korpisota.fi website. The website presents the entire military history of the Kuusamo-Kiestinki direction as accurately as possible. The historical books are divided into several parts: Winter War in Kuusamo, Salpalinja in Kuusamo, Field Railroad in Kuusamo, and the four-part Korpisota Kuusamo-Kiestinki 1941-1944 historical series: "Korpisota 1941 - Attack to the East", "Korpisota 1942 – Defensive Victory", "Korpisota 1943 – Trench warfare" and "Korpisota 1944 – The east is burning". The website also presents the entire war area, short histories of the units, maintenance activities in the Kuusamo-Kiestinki area, combat equipment used by the troops (from pistols to aircraft), aviation activities and partisan warfare. The books include carefully crafted interactive zoomable maps, as well as a lot of photographs depicting the events. The site also features various research reports.

The Salpalinja in Kuusamo e-book was published on September 6, 2022 and now a revised, so-called improved second edition of this book, Salpalinja in Kuusamo, (ISBN 978-952-94-9407-1), has been published on this website.

Salpalinja Kuusamossa (new edition)

"Salpalinja in Kuusamo" (ISBN 978-952-94-9407-1) is a historical book that is an online publication that presents the construction of the Salpalinja in Kuusamo during the years 1940–1941. The new publication is an improved version of the e-book of the same name, published in 2022, with over 350 pages. The book contains a wealth of new information, such as site photos (113), carefully prepared zoomable maps (91), and various structural drawings of fortification equipment (87), illustrating the events. The work discusses in detail the stages of construction, delay stations, blockades, and fortification artillery. It also presents the events of autumn 1944, when the reinforced concrete embankments of the Salpalinja were destroyed in Kuusamo. It also briefly describes the restoration of the Salpalinja in Lahtela, Kuusamo. (only finnish language available)

Korpisota 1941 – Attack to the East

"Korpisota 1941 - Attack to the East" historical book (ISBN 978-952-65799-0-0) is an online publication of over 300 pages, which will be published on this website on December 15, 2024. The book links together the entire military history of the Kuusamo–Kiestinki direction, covering the events of 1941. The book contains a lot of archive photos (over 250) and carefully prepared zoomable interactive maps (65) illustrating the events. It deals in detail with ground warfare, air warfare, partisan warfare and maintenance operations in the area. In addition, the reader can read presentations of the units, as well as presentations of the weapons and weapon systems used by the units. In total, it is a reading package of approximately 600 pages of military history.

This is the first part of a four-part series, Korpisota 1941 - Attack to the East. The events of 1942-1944 will be covered in later parts of the series. English version is available also!
